K24 news anchor Betty Kyalo has left Mediamax’s K24 barely two years after she joined the station as a member of the dream team that would take the Uhuru Kenyatta-owned station to the next level.
“I really appreciated you all. It’s now time for me to say Goodbye here on K24 TV, if we meet again great, if not you know how you can find me on all my social media platforms, Instagram, Facebook and YouTube, Betty Kyallo lately its going to be popping and we are going to be doing great things there. Thank you so much for all your support I appreciate You God bless you and I love you. Good Night.”
Her departure comes a month after Mediamax Network Limited announced a pay-cut of between 20% and 50 % of all its staff across its broadcasting, online and print divisions to cushion the company from the disruptive effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Kyallo has been focusing on building her social media presence with her YouTube channel.
She also moved the location of her beauty salon ‘Flair by Betty’ from FCB Mihrab in Kilimani to a location yet to be disclosed.
Kyallo has, however, given her fans a glimpse of her new location which is a maisonette with its own compound which has been turned into her salon-cum-spa.
She said she has come a long way in her business from leaving her partnership with Susan Kaitany, with whom she started Posh Palace, to getting her own salon right opposite and now bigger premises.
Kyallo said on her YouTube channel that when she went to the location at FCB Mirhab, her clients complained it was smaller than Posh Palace, and although it hurt, it gave her motivation.
The celebrated media personality joined K24 on September 20, 2018, a couple of months after she made a surprise exit from KTN.
She joined the Mediamax owned station at a time when they had lost several staffers including prime time news anchor Richard Kagoe, to BBC and Michelle Morgan who resigned just a week before Betty joined, citing a need to pursue personal interests as her reason for quitting.
Betty won the 2017 Social Media Awards (SOMA) for the Media Personality of The Year, she was also voted as the Journalist of the Year by Kenyans on Twitter a years later.
The sassy anchor trumped opposition from KTN News reporter Timothy Otieno, The Star Digital Editor Oliver Mathenge and Marvin Gakuyi to emerge the winner in the K0T 2018 Awards.
She took to her Instagram page to celebrate the good news at the time.
“We won again! Thank you to all my people on Twitter who voted for me as Journalist Of the Year.
“Much gratitude to all of you beloved! And of course much respect to all the other worthy contenders Timothy Otieno, Oliver Mathenge and digital journalist Marvin Gakunyi. I salute you. Thanks, Twitter!” she stated.
The bubbly news presenter recently (May 17) launched her own YouTube channel, which has since garnered over 29.7K subscribers.
“Finally it’s here. My YouTube channel. First Video on Tuesday! Super excited to share my highs and lows with you, my people! Love BK,” she announced following her launch.
In her farewell message, she hinted at using her channel for her next project.
“If we meet again, great. If not, you know how you can find me on all my social media platforms, Facebook, Instagram and of course my YouTube channel. I’m going to be doing great things there,” she announced.
The celebrated media powerhouse is a Mum, a Journalist, a Corporate MC, and a Brand Influencer.
On May 19, she shared the first installment of her highly anticipated web series known as Betty Kyallo Lately.
